Qatar Full Year 2020: Toyota Land Cruiser #1, MG up to #7, sales down -17.5%

New car sales in Qatar drop -17.5% year-on-year in 2020 to 37.411 units. Market leader Toyota (-19.7%) loses one percentage point of share to 35.9% as the Top four brands all lose more ground than the market: Nissan (-19.5%), Kia (-26.1%) and Mitsubishi (-18.5%). Lexus (-16.9%) posts the best hold in the Top 5 but the best performing brands are to be found below. After landing directly at #10 in 2019, Chinese carmaker MG (+17.9%) climbs to a Middle-East best of 7th place this year with 3.4% share, here too its highest in the Middle East so far. Ford (+10.6%) and Suzuki (+8.1%) also brave the market conditions and post year-on-year gains in the remainder of the Top 10. Changan ends its first full year in Qatar at #17 in between Renault and Mazda. If Chevrolet (-55.5%) skids down 6 spots to #11, other American carmakers post strong results: Jeep (+55.1%), Dodge (+15.8%) and Ram (+5.8%) are all up year-on-year.

Over in the models ranking, the Toyota Land Cruiser (-14.9%) celebrates more than a decade in pole position, even improving its market share slightly to 14.8%. The Toyota Hilux (-6.4%) overtakes the Nissan Sunny (-29.1%) for 2nd place overall, with the Nissan Patrol (-10.9%) and Lexus LX (-13.4%) remaining at #4 and #5 respectively. The Mitsubishi L200 (+46.6%) surges 9 spots on last year to #7, the GMC Sierra (-10.3%) is up five to #9 and the Toyota Rush (+27%) up 16 to #10. Notice also the Suzuki Jimny up 4-fold to #19. The Kia Seltos is the most popular 2020 launch at #29 ahead of the Land Rover Defender (#37), Chevrolet Captiva (#55) and Changan Alsvin (#64).
