In a context burdened by strengthened economic sanctions in the wake of the Ukraine crisis, the Russia new car market continues its free fall: now down 23% year-on-year in July to just 180,767 registrations, which brings the year-to-date total to 1,410,606 units, down 10% on 2013. Even though it still leads the models ranking thanks to 11,819 sales and 6.5%, the Lada Granta is down 19% on July 2013 and being caught up by the older Hyundai Solaris, astonishingly up 3% to 9,778 units and 5.4% in 2nd place, to be compared with 4% share one year ago! The Kia Rio holds onto the third spot while the Renault Duster is back up to the #4 ranking it also holds year-to-date.
First Top 10 ranking for the Toyota Camry…
For the first time in 3.5 years (since February 2011 exactly), the Renault Logan is back among the 5 most popular vehicles in Russia thanks to the new generation now frankly gearing up: +31% year-on-year to 5,630 sales and 3.1%. A telling sign that the Russian car market is undertaking a fast and drastic transformation: if in 2011 a 5th place meant the Logan was the best-seller foreign car in the country, now it only means it is 4th, with only one Lada in the Top 5 (the Granta) vs. 4 in 2011… To the Russian manufacturer’s credit, this month’s results are better than usual this year: the Largus gains one percentage point of market share yoy at #6 and 3.1%, the Kalina is up 17% to #7 and the Priora back up 5 spots on June to reclaim a spot in the Top 10 at #9.
… and first Top 25 ranking for the Opel Mokka, becoming the brand’s best-seller in Russia.
The Toyota Camry breaks into the Top 10 for the first time in spite of sales down 26% to 3,122 units, the Kia Cee’d is up 5 ranks on last month but down 3% yoy to #11, the Toyota Corolla is up 42% to #15, the Skoda Rapid up 10% and 4 spots on June to #16 and 2,578 sales for its third month in market and the Opel Mokka breaks into the monthly Top 25 for the very first time at #25 thanks to sales up 296% to 1,938 for a 1.1% market share.
