As economic sanctions against the country as a result of the Ukraine crisis remain in place, the Russian new car market accentuates its decline further in August to a dismal 26% year-on-year drop at 172,015 registrations. Brand-wise, below Lada down a harsh 32% and Kia down 20%, Hyundai (-6%) and Toyota (-8%) both gain one spot on July to rank #3 and #4 respectively, overtaking Renault (-18%) which however remains #2 year-to-date. In the Top 25, only Mercedes (+3%), UAZ (+1%), Mazda (stable), Lexus (+13%) and Great Wall (+5%) don’t lose ground.

Below the Kia Rio down 16% in third place, the Renault Logan gains one further spot on July to land in 4th position, simply the nameplate’s best-ever ranking since BSCB started following Russian sales monthly in March 2010.
