Taiwan June 2013: Now with Photo Album!

Thanks to Rutger van der Maar who recently travelled to Taiwan, I can share with you a Photo Album of the car landscape there. This is just a selection, check out Rutger’s Flickr page for the entire 391 photos!

The first striking observation going through this album is how Taiwanese consumers have started tuning the local Luxgen models, meaning these cars, although they have been relatively discreet in the sales rankings…

…are entering the vernacular of the car culture in Taiwan, logical in retrospect given they are the only true local models available, but interesting nonetheless.

This is also the opportunity to pick up on a few Taiwanese specificities from today, like the Mitsubishi Lancer Fortis…

…or from yesteryear when local brand Yue Loong used to sell Datsun models like this Stanza.

Let’s also notice the presence of a few Chinese cars: the Gleagle Panda is sold in Taiwan as the Tobe M’Car and its ‘cross’ version the Panda GX2 as the Tobe W’Car, including a plug-in electric version. But local brand Tobe apparently stopped selling the Panda because of poor sales.

You will also notice the Chery using yet another nameplate for both its A3, called Apola in Taiwan and A1, called Fresh…
