The UK new car market continues to defy the gloomy european economic context and celebrates its 13th consecutive month of year-on-year growth for the all-important plate change month of March. Sales are up a very healthy 6% to 394,806 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 605,198 units, up 7% on 2012. After being passed by the Ford Focus 3 times in the previous 4 months, the Ford Fiesta re-establishes its domination on the British market thanks to 22,748 sales and 5.8% share, in line with its year-to-date score of 34,309 units and 5.7%. The Vauxhall Corsa is up one spot on February to #2 with 16,169 sales and 4.1% but is still #3 year-to-date at 24,561 units vs. 25,081 for the Ford Focus, down to #3 this month.

The next 4 spots are unchanged vs. February: the VW Golf ranks #4 followed by the Vauxhall Astra, Nissan Qashqai and VW Polo. The BMW 1 Series brilliantly reappears within the UK Top 10 at #8 with 7,001 sales and 1.8%: it is its 5th time among the 10 most popular cars in the country in the last 8 months. The Peugeot 208 and Mercedes C-Class round up the Top 10 while the Nissan Juke, even though it is kicked out of it this month, manages to keep its #10 spot year-to-date with an excellent 10,010 sales and 1.7% share. Brand-wise, notice Land Rover up to #11 and Dacia already up to #26 just below Mitsubishi and Chevrolet with 1,651 sales for its third month in market…
