The Gulf Cooperation Council is composed of the sates bordering the Persian Gulf: Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Oman. After gaining a very impressive 23% over the Full Year 2012, new car sales in the region are up a further 26% year-on-year in January to 129,983 registrations, with absolutely all countries lodging 20%+ increases. This month the models podium in unchanged, with the Toyota Hilux leading the way thanks to 9,431 sales and 7.3%, ahead of the Toyota Corolla at 8,251 units and 6.3% which is a full percentage point above its FY2012 market share, potentially a result of promotions linked to the arrival of the new generation of the model later in the year.
The Toyota Land Cruiser rounds up the podium with 5,996 sales and 4.6% followed by the Toyota Prado at 5,698 units and 4.4%. Hyundai places the Elantra at a brilliant 5th place with 4,686 sales and 3.6% vs. 2.8% over FY2012 and the Accent at #6 with 4,189 units and 3.2%. The rest of the Top 10 is only composed of Toyotas: the Yaris at #7 ahead of the Camry, Land Cruiser Pick-up and Fortuner. Notice also the Kia Cerato up a whopping 15 ranks on December to #13, the Nissan D22 up 6 to #16, Lexus LX up 5 to #20, Toyota Avalon up 13 to #23 and Mitsubishi Pajero up 14 to #25.
