New car sales in Venezuela are down a painful 31% year-on-year to 8,193 registrations, bringing the Full Year 2012 to 130,553 units, still up 8% on 2011. The Venezuelan model ranking is always full of surprises as it follows the ‘stop-starts’ of local production and imports, and this month is no different: on the back an unprecedented 4,000-unit batch specifically exported to Venezuela, the DongFeng S30, distributed by Civetchi, takes off and gains 25 spots on November to simply take the lead with 583 sales and 7.1% share! This makes Venezuela one of only a few countries and territories to crown a Chinese model in a monthly ranking with Ukraine last July, New Caledonia in November 2011 and potentially Tajikistan…
Boosted by government deliveries, the Toyota Hilux is up 3 ranks to #2 vs. #16 in the Full Year, and is followed by the Ford Explorer (+11), Ford F350 (+3), Mitsubishi Lancer (-1) and Mazda BT-50, last month’s leader. The Kia Rio is up 11 spots to #7, the Fiat Siena is back in the ranking at #9, the Haima 7 is up 19 ranks to #11, Kia Sportage up 10 to #12 and Chevrolet Orlando down 7 to #17. Notice also the Dodge Forza, a rebadged Fiat Siena produced locally, selling its first 15 units in the country.
