New car sales in Taiwan are down 3% year-on-year in 2012 to 365,871 registrations, and the most popular model in the country is not a surprise: the Toyota Corolla is in the driving seat for the 7th consecutive time at least with 36,342 sales and just under 10% market share, behaving exactly like the market at -3% year-on-year. The best performer this year is the Toyota Camry, boosted by the new generation of the model and up 4 spots and 23% on 2011 to #2 at 17,064 units and 4.7%. It never threatened the Corolla for the top spot though. Down one rank on 2011, the Nissan Tiida rounds up the Taiwanese podium with 15,477 sales and 4.2%, down 15%.
The next 3 models all drop one spot on last year as well: the Toyota Wish is #4 (-9%) followed by the Nissan Livina (-12%) and Toyota Yaris (-17%) while the Mitsubishi Veryca is up two ranks to #7 (-9%), ahead of the Toyota Vios (-19%). Two models make a brilliant first appearance in the year-end Top 10: the Toyota Innova is up 195% and 21 spots to #9 at 9,427 units and the Honda CR-V is up 15% and 15 ranks to #10 with 8,562 sales. Notice also the Mitsubishi Delica up 106% to #14, the Hyundai Elantra up to #16, Mazda5 up to #18 and Nissan March up to #23.
