World 6 months 2012: Discover the Top 120 best-selling models!

Will 2012 be the first year the Ford Focus sells over one million units worldwide?

After sharing with you the Top 150 best-selling cars in the world in June, I have now created a Top 120 world models ranking for the first half of 2012. And there are two models that look like they are on their wait to a millionaire year in 2012: the Toyota Corolla is in pole position with 586,301 sales, followed by the Ford Focus at 502,834 units. If the Focus sells over one million units worldwide in 2012 it could be the first time for the nameplate, with its best year so far being to my knowledge 2000 when it sold 926,284 units.

Hyundai Elantra

The VW Jetta ranks third with 456,367 sales, ahead of the Toyota Camry at 399,659, the VW Golf at 393,413 and the Ford Fiesta at 386,819. The Chevrolet Cruze confirms it is General Motors’ worldwide best-seller by ranking 7th with 376,234 units. The VW Passat and Nissan Tiida/Versa/Sunny switch positions compared to the Q1 2012 ranking while the Ford F-Series rounds up the Top 10 with 366,493 sales, just above the Hyundai Elantra at 362,648 units.

Will its facelift push the VW Gol into the world Top 20 by year-end?

A few models improve their worldwide ranking compared to Q1: the Honda Civic is up 2 spots to #15, the Toyota Hilux is up 4 to #18, the Hyundai Sonata up 3 to #20, the Honda Accord up 7 to #22, the VW Gol/Voyage up 5 to #25 and the Chevrolet Silverado also up 5 to #27.

BMW 3 Series

Further down and more spectacularly, the Hyundai ix35/Tucson is up 11 ranks to #39, while the Renault/Dacia Logan is up 6 to #42, the BMW 3 Series up 6 as well to #43 and the Chevrolet Malibu up 10 to #48.

Toyota will sell over one million hybrids in 2012- here the Prius c.

Note also that Toyota sold 630,048 hybrid cars in the world in the first 6 months of 2012, more than the 628,989 it sold in the entire year 2011! Therefor the Japanese manufacturer is well on track to sell over one million hybrids worldwide in 2012 for the very first time… The Prius family is now split by model in the worldwide ranking, with the Prius at #35, the Prius c/Aqua at #72 and the Prius MPV at #88.

    The VW Jetta and VW Golf are the same car !…so 849780 the Jetta/Golf the NO1 in the world.

    3 Fords in top 10 – not bad, not bad at all!
    Bar the Clio / Thalia, some Dacia models are outselling mother cie Renault.
    Duster had a big July, but these numbers are to follow.
