World June 2012: Discover the Top 150 best-selling models!

Given I am on holidays I have a little more time to spoil you and today I decided I would share with you for the first time on Best Selling Cars Blog a worldwide Top 150 models ranking for June 2012 – I will try and upload a similar ranking for H1 2012 shortly. This compilation has been made possible thanks to the hard work of Austin Rutherford. There is one change this month: Prius sales have been split between Prius, Prius c/Aqua and Prius MPV, in a similar way Megane/Scenic, C4/C4 Picasso and Focus/C-Max are split as I believe it is a similar situation.

The new gen Corolla should help the nameplate stay #1 in the world in 2012

Compared to last month and the 2012 year-to-date ranking, the Top 3 most popular models in the world are unchanged in June: the Toyota Corolla leads the way again with 103,270 sales, remembering that these now include 3 generations of the model with the 11th gen just launched in Japan, Matrix and Auris sales, only because these are not split in most countries. The Ford Focus comes 2nd with 94,251 units, most of them the last generation now available worldwide, while the VW Jetta rounds up the podium again with 88,592 sales including a plethora of different generations sold around the world (see the detail at the bottom of the Top 150 table).

VW Jetta

The VW Golf is up one spot to #4 in spite of dreadful economic conditions in Western Europe, and the Nissan Sunny/Tiida/Versa (depending on which country it is sold in) is the big mover this month in the worldwide Top 10, going from #12 in May to #5 with 67,731 sales, just above the Ford Fiesta (+2), Ford F-Series (-1) and Chevrolet Cruze (+1). The Toyota Camry (-5) and VW Passat (stable) complete the Worldwide June Top 10.

Notice the Toyota Hilux up to #13, the Honda Accord up to #20 and the VW Gol/Voyage up to #23. The Ford Escape and Kuga now have their sales combined as the new generation is the same model across both nameplates and shoots up to #27 this month with 38,765 sales, while the Hyundai Tucson/ix35 is up to #30 vs. #48 in Q1. The Chevrolet Malibu is #33 (vs. #56), the BMW 3 Series #38 (vs. #47) and the Mercedes C-Class #47 (vs. #64). Further down, the Renault Duster is up to #52 (vs. #83), the Hyundai Santa Fe to #65, the Nissan Livina to #74 and the VW Fox to #80.

If you add all generations of the Corolla or Focus together, shouldn’t you do the same with cars of manufacturers who don’t keep the same names for cars. E.g., the Peugeot 208 and 207 (and 206?)?

Thank you for putting this data out, btw

Well, I am in the market for a used hybrid, and with the obvious choice coming in at #37 I am wondering if I should get a used Toyota Prius or go new? I don’t know… What I do know is that I do not want a Civic or a Focus… ugh, too much to think about.

    Hi Rick,
Yes this is correct, now that I split Prius between Prius, Prius c/Aqua and Prius MPV the original Prius is not in the Top 20 anymore…

I meant in the list ‘World 6 months 2012′
Guess it’s not selling in sufficient numbers to reach the top 20.

BTW, if you do put Logan and Sandero together it would rank at #12. Quite significant, no?

    Hi Matt

If you’re going to put Palio and Siena, and Gol and Voyage together, you should really put Sandero and Logan together. Same case. Hatch/sedan. BTW, are you counting Grand Siena and Siena together?

    Great job,

    Thanks!
