For the third consecutive month new car sales in Finland suffer from the after-effects of the tax hike that occurred on April 1 and forwarded thousands of sales into March: June is down 32% year-on-year to 7,529 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 66,082 units, down 6% on 2011. The VW Golf tops the models ranking for the second time in a row in June with 410 sales and 5.4%, its highest market share in Finland since April 2011. However after a weak start of the year it is still only #4 year-to-date with 2,375 units and 3.6%. Note it is the first time since June 2011 that the VW Golf ranks #1 two months in a row in Finland.

The Skoda Octavia is up one spot on May to #2 with 289 units and 3.8% ahead of the Nissan Qashqai at 278 sales and 3.7%, both models holding the same spot as in the 2012 YTD ranking. Another solid month for the Toyota Yaris at #4 with 3.1% share, however the VW Polo is catching up fast, gaining 7 spots on last month to #5 with 230 sales and 3.1% share vs. #24 and 1.2% year-to-date… Still #1 year-to-date but perhaps not for too much longer, the Toyota Avensis is down to #6 in June.

Other great performers this month include the Kia Cee’d up 6 ranks to #7 and 2.4%, the Opel Astra up 9 to #8, the Kia Rio maintaining itself within the Finnish Top 10 for the third consecutive month at #10 and the Volvo V60 up 5 spots to #15.
