Peugeot 206

This year Peugeot manages the extraordinary feat of placing two models atop the ranking: the Peugeot 206 with 21,173 sales and 4.1% and the Peugeot 307 at 18,849 sales and 3.7%. Opel, the #1 brand in the Netherlands since 1969, only managed this feat once in 1991 (Kadett-Vectra), and Peugeot has never managed it in its native France!

In 3rd position the VW Golf drops two spots and 27% to 18,577 units and 3.6%, followed by the Ford Focus (3.5%), Opel Astra (3.1%), Opel Corsa and Renault Scenic (both at 2.7%). Notice the Renault Laguna at #8 and the Suzuki Alto up 34 spots to #15, the best-selling Japanese model.

    Hi Matt,

I really enjoy reading your blog! It’s very interesting.
One remark: Opel did place two models in the first two spots: Kadett and Vectra in 1991. A small mistake in the text.
I’m from the Netherlands and I already knew what were the best selling cars in the country in this period.
Perhaps another nice fact to know: Opel was the best selling car brand in the Netherlands from 1969. You already knew it was succeeded by VW.
I also have some data on the (I think top 20) best selling models in the Netherlands in 1975 (this year only). I will try my best to search for these statistics. Let me know If you are interested!
