Japan 1997: Corolla and March on top, Honda StepWGN up to #5

1997 is the 29th consecutive time the Toyota Corolla is the favourite model in Japan, with sales up 7% to 238,098. In second place the Nissan March is back up one spot and 9% year-on-year to 143,965 units, followed by the Toyota Mark II, up 10% to 126,658 sales. The Toyota Starlet stays #4 at -4% while the Honda StepWGN is up a massive 33% to land 5th for its first full year in the country with 109,893 units.
Below the Toyota Crown down 20% to #6, the Toyota Ipsum also does very well for its first full year of sales, up 5% and 4 spots on 1996 to #7 and 92,822 units. Notice also the Mazda Demio up 208% to #9, the all-new Honda SM-X directly #12 with 69,910 sales, the Honda Logo up 265% to #13, the Toyota Town Ace up 97% to #15, the Toyota Camry up 41% to #16 and the Mitsubishi Legnum up 240% to #19.
