Italy 1993: Last year of reign for the Fiat Uno

The Italian car market drops 20% in 1993 at 1.885 million registrations. The Fiat Uno enjoys its 11th and last year of domination with 234,329 sales (-30%) and 12.4% of the market. Its replacement, the Fiat Punto, launches in November and immediately takes the lead of Italian car sales with 20,627 units sold that month for a 14% share and 18,247 sales in December (13.7%), adding up to 38,874 in 2 months at #15 by year-end.

Fiat Cinquecento

In 2nd place, the Ford Fiesta passes the Fiat Panda again at 107,640 sales (5.7% share) vs. 105,610 (5.6%). After a slow start last year, the Fiat Cinquecento finally finds its cruising rhythm in 4th position and 89,524 units, up 49% year-on-year. The VW Golf confirms its strength in 5th place (4.6%) and the Peugeot 106 breaks into the Top 10 for the first time at #10 with 54,105 sales and 2.8% share.

Innocenti Elba

Further down, the Lancia Dedra ranks #18, the Nissan Micra is the best-selling Japanese model at #20 with 24,772 sales and 1.3%, the Ford Mondeo lands at #24, Seat places 3 models in the Top 40 with the Ibiza at #23, the Toledo at #31 and the Marbella at #37, the Maruti 800 ranks #40 and the Innocenti Elba, a rebadged Fiat Uno station wagon is #43 with 7,164 sales.

    The Innocenti Elba was a rebadged Fiat Duna Weekend, which itself was based on the brazilian Fiat Uno CS not on the italian Uno ;)
