Argentina May 2026: Sales plunge -26.2%, BYD breaks records again
BYD is up to a record 8th place in Argentina in May.
The Argentinean new light vehicle market falls deeper into depression in April at -26.2% year-on-year to 39,210 units. The year-to-date volume is now down -10.2% to 232,815. Toyota (-38.8%) stays on top of the brands ranking ahead of Volkswagen (-43.2%) but remains #2 year-to-date. Jeep (-56.9%), Renault (-53.9%), Peugeot (-41.3%), Fiat (-38.3%) and Citroen (-35.6%) are all in complete freefall while Ford (-9.2%) resists better at #4. Like in April the hero of the month is newcomer BYD breaking its ranking (#8) and share (4.3%) records for the 2nd month running. Chery (+768.2%), BAIC (+135.6%), Mercedes (+72.3%) and Hyundai (+28.2%) all defy the plunging market below.
Model-wise, the Toyota Hilux (-18.1%) easily stays on top at 5.9% share and falls slightly slower than the market. It is followed by the Ford Ranger (-22.2%) and Fiat Cronos (-48.6%), both up two spots on last month. The Ford Territory (+54.9%) posts another excellent month at #4, a ranking it also holds YTD. There are two recent launches inside the Top 10: the Toyota Yaris Cross at #8 (+2) and the VW Tera at #10 (-4). Other great performers below include the BAIC BJ30 (+4830%), Fiat Fiorino (+532%) and Renault Kangoo (+220.8%).
