The Russian new car market is off -15.6% or almost 250,000 sales in 2025 to just 1,326,016 units. Local behemoth Lada (-24.4%) drops even faster than its home market and loses close to three percentage points of share at 24.9% vs. 27.8% in 2024. Haval (-9.1%) on the other hand progresses from 12.1% to 13.1%. Chery (-36.4%) and Geely (-36.9%) both implode but stay #3 and #4 respectively. Belgee, a Belarusian-Chinese joint venture selling rebadged Geely models surges 96.5% to #5 and 5.1% share vs. #9 and 2.2% in 2024. Changan (-37.6%) is in trouble whereas Jetour (+3.9%) defies the negative context with a small YoY gain.

Solaris (+132%), selling rebadged Hyundai Group models after acquiring the former Hyundai plant in St Petersburg in January 2024, breaks into the Top 10 at #8. But the most spectacular arrival in the Russian charts this year is Tenet, launched in August and landing directly at #9 and peaking at #3 and 8.9% share in December. Tenet is a China-Russia joint venture which assembles rebadged Chery vehicles at the Kaluga plant, previously owned by Volkswagen. Toyota makes a noticed appearance at #10 and ranked #7 in December while BMW was #10 during the last month of the year.

The new Lada Iskra is #10 in December.

Model-wise, the Lada Granta (-27%) tops the charts for the 9th time after 20132014, 2015, 20192020, 2022, 2023 and 2024, and despite a ghastly fall. The Lada Vesta (-35.2%) fares even worse but holds onto the 2nd spot. Note it was down to #5 in December. The Belgee X50 (a rebadged Geely Coolray) shoots up 25% from outside the 2024 Top 10 directly into 4th place. Ir is followed by the Geely Monjaro (-21.4%) and Haval M6 (-5.1%) up five ranks to #6.

The antediluvian Lada Niva Legend (-26.7%) manages to gain one spot to #7 with 2.6% share. Promised to Top 10 finishes in 2026, the Tenet T7 is already up to #3 in December just as the Tenet T4 peaked at #4 in November and December. Notice also the new Lada Iskra, slotting in-between the Granta and Vesta, pointing its bonnet at #10 in December. The Iskra is the first new model developed by AvtoVAZ after they were reacquired by the Russian government from Renault.
