Portugal May 2025: Peugeot 2008 and Citroen C3 on top in surging market (+18.6%)
The Citroen C3 ranks #2 in Portugal in May.
New car sales in Portugal shoot up 18.6% year-on-year in May to 23,545 units, bringing the year-to-date tally to 100,842, up 4.8% over the same period last year. Peugeot (+38.5%) remains the uncontested leader with 10.5% of the market, while Dacia (+32.1%) overtakes Mercedes (+13.7%) to snap the 2nd spot. Volkswagen (+12.2%) follows but disappoints slightly, as does Renault (+6.9%), albeit still #2 year-to-date. Fiat (+104.3%) signs the biggest jump in the Top 10, up 15 ranks on last month to #10. Kia (+47.3%) and Citroen (+23.8%) also shines, while further down BYD (+331.6%), MG (+158.2%), Jeep (+120%) and Skoda (+83.4%) stand out.
Over in the models charts, the Peugeot 2008 (+38.1%) surges to pole position for the first time since last November, grabbing the YTD #1 spot in the process. The Citroen C3 (+27.8%) is up seven spots on April to #2 and ends the month just 19 units below the 2008 when adding the e-C3 variant. Leader last month, the Dacia Duster (+152.3%) continues to impress at #3 overall, well above the #6 rank it commands year-to-date. The Fiat Panda (+153.8%) soars no less than 110 ranks on last month to land at #4 above the Renault Clio (-7%), Dacia Sandero (-9.6%) and Peugeot 208 (-13.2%) all underperforming. The Kia Stonic (+272.7%) is the best performer in the Top 10, up 27 spots on April to #8.
