Portugal March 2023: Peugeot 2008 reclaims control of market up 60.1%

The Peugeot 2008 is back to being the best-selling nameplate in Portugal.

The Portuguese new car market surges 60.1% year-on-year in March to 21,472 units, leading to a Q1 2023 result up 49.6% to 52,191. The entire podium beats the market this month. Peugeot (+93.7%) retains the top spot with 11.8% share, distancing Volkswagen (+174.2%) up four spots on February to #2 and Renault (+80.6%) down one to #3. Opel (+96.1%), Dacia (+69.5%) and Toyota (+60.8%) also grow faster than the market in the remainder of the Top 10 whereas Mercedes (+53.8%), Citroen (+43.4%) and Seat (+35.6%) are slower. Mazda (+334%), Tesla (+126.5%), Cupra (+117%), Ford (+113.4%) and Skoda (+111.8%) all impress below.

The Peugeot 2008 (+211%) triples its year-ago volume to frankly take the helm of the models ranking for the second time this year with 4.3% share. It also snaps the YTD top spot as a result, a rank it held over the Full Year 2022. The Peugeot 208 (+5.3%) is timid and relegated in 2nd place in both March and YTD. The Opel Corsa (+182.6%) surges six spots on February to round out the podium ahead of the VW T-Roc (+918%), Tesla Model Y (+152.3%) and Renault Captur (+189%). The Nissan Qashqai (+311.4%), Dacia Sandero (+129.1%) and Mercedes A-Class (+114.1%) also shine among remaining Top 10 members.
