Spain October 2024: Toyota (+27.3%), VW (+39.7%), Renault (+38.4%) highlight positive market
Toyota Corolla sales are up 32% year-on-year in October.
The Spanish new car market gains 7.2% year-on-year in October to 83,472 units, leading to a year-to-date tally up 4.9% to 828,162. This is however -22% below the 10 months 2019 pre-pandemic result. After jumping 20% in September, sales of electrified vehicles recede -1.4% to 9,908 for a 11.9% market share. YTD volumes are up 0.4% to 90,137 and 10.9% share. Private sales advance 8.7% to 41,436 for the month, just as company sales gain 6.5% to 36,1654 and rentals edge up 0.5% to 5,872. Year-to-date, private sales are up 7.6% to 366,206 but company sales drop -7.9% to 299,446 and rental sales surge 31.1% to 162,510. Asturias (+41%) is the most dynamic region ahead of Galicia (+27.4%), Canarias (+17.5%), Baleares (+17.1%), Castilla Leon (+16.6%), Murcia (+14.8%) and La rioja (+14.5%).
The top three carmakers all vastly outpace the market with double-digit gains. Toyota (+27.3%) cements its leadership at 10.7% share vs. 9.5% so far this year, it is followed by Volkswagen (+39.7%) at 7.4% vs. 6.6% and Renault (+38.4%) at 7.2% vs. 6.1%. Hyundai (+6.2%) stays at #4 but ascends to #3 year-to-date, discarding Seat (+23.8%). Dacia (-1.6%) is in difficulty but manages a 5th place vs. #7 year-to-date. Skoda (+56.3%) delivers the largest uptick in the Top 10 at #9. Omoda (+3186.2%) equals its record ranking at #21 and BYD (+582.9%) is up two spots on last month to #23 and 1% share, a new best. Chinese Livan lands at #49 and Leapmotor at #55.
Model-wise, the Dacia Sandero (+4%) remains the clear best-seller with 3.8% share vs. 3.3% year-to-date, while the Toyota Corolla (+32%) climbs back up 17 spots on September to return to the 2nd place it holds year-to-date. The Toyota Yaris Cross (+9.7%) is up 5 ranks to #3 and the MG ZS (-24.4%) is back up 12 spot to #4 but suffers year-on-year. The Hyundai Tucson (+3.2%) rounds out the Top 5 like last month. Excellent performances by the Seat Ibiza (+36.9%), Renault Austral (+157.3%) and Captur (+29.8%) in the remainder of the Top 10.
