Netherlands October 2024: Volkswagen scores first win this year
The VW Tiguan ranks #3 in the Netherlands in October.
32,198 new cars hit Dutch roads in October, a splendid 13.5% year-on-year improvement. The year-to-date tally however remains in negative at -1.5% to 310,378. Hybrids account for 44.8% of the market thanks to 14,426 sales while BEVs are at 34.1% share with 10,984 units. Petrol is at 19.8% (6,361), diesel at 0.8% (262) and LPG at 0.5% (165).
Volkswagen (+16.4%) wins the brands race for the first time this year after a string of mediocre results keeps it to a paltry #5 year-to-date (it topped the charts over the Full Year 2023). Kia (-4.1%) is up to #2 but endures the only year-on-year drop in the Top 9. It stays #1 year-to-date. Volvo (+57.7%), Peugeot (+53.3%), Ford (+44.2%), Skoda (+29.3%) and Toyota (+19.5%) also beat the market in the remainder of the Top 10.
Model-wise, the Volvo XC40/EX40 (+9.5%) takes the lead for the 2nd time this year after last February, surging 14 spots on September. Leader a year ago, the Kia Picanto (-25.4%) drops to a still very satisfying 2nd place. Volkswagen places the Tiguan (+375.3%) up 18 ranks on last month to #3 and the Polo (-0.7%) down one to #4. Great performance also by the Hyundai Kona (+218.6%) up 11 spots to #5. The new Volvo EX30 ranks at #6 for the month, down from #4 in September. Leaders last month, the Tesla Model Y (-1.9%) is down to #9 and the Model 3 (+44.8%) down to #10.
