Chile February 2024: Market down -14.4%, Mitsubishi L200 reclaims lead
The Mitsubishi L200 aka Triton is the best-selling vehicle in Chile in Ferbruary.
The Chilean new light vehicle market accelerates its fall in February to -14.4% year-on-year and 22,450 units. This is the weakest February volume it at least 8 years. The year-to-date tally is down -11.6% to 47,567. The Top 4 brands are unchanged on January and FY2023 with Toyota (-10.4%) in the lead followed by Chevrolet (-3.9%). Hyundai (+4.6%), Kia (+19.7%) and Suzuki (+17.4%) all defy the negative market with solid gains below. GWM (+49.1%) easily lodges the largest lift in the Top 10 (and second largest in the Top 20), with Ford (+11.9%) the only additional gainer in the Top 10. MG (-9%) improves its share year-on-year whereas Mitsubishi (-47.5%) and Peugeot (-26%) sink.
Model-wise, the Mitsubishi L200 (-56%) reclaims the lead despite a ghastly fall, distancing last year’s and last month’s leader the Toyota Hilux (+0.3%), stable. The Chevrolet Groove (+4%) is the best-selling SUV in the country again and steps up one spot on last month to #3. It is followed by a struggling Maxus T60 (-27.8%), whereas the next 6 models all excel with double-digit gains. The Kia Soluto (+31%) is the most dynamic ahead of the GWM Poer (+21.9%), Peugeot Partner (+20%), Suzuki Swift (+15.2%), Baleno (+15.1%) and Hyundai Grand i10 (+12.8%).
