Argentina January 2024: Fiat Cronos and Peugeot 208 add up to 25.5% share, sales sink -32.8%

The Fiat Cronos holds 14.7% of the Argentinean market in January.

32,204 new light vehicle found an Argentinean home in January, a harsh -32.8% year-on-year drop. Fiat (-33.9%). Fiat (-33.9%) takes the lead of the brands charts for the first time since January 2022 despite falling faster than the market with 16.1% share vs. 13.1% over the Full Year 2023. Volkswagen (-24.5%) stays in 2nd place with 14.3% share while Toyota (-57.2%) is in complete freefall at #3 an 13.7% share vs. 22% over FY2023. Peugeot (-14.4%), Renault (-14.2%) and Ford (-30.2%) all gain share year-on-year  whereas Chevrolet (-44.7%) sinks. Jeep (+5.5%) is the only Top 10 carmaker in positive with Ram (+157.8%) also posting a very impressive lift at #12 vs. #23 over FY2023.

Model-wise, the Fiat Cronos (-33.3%) matches the market to easily remain in the top spot with 14.7% share, while the Peugeot 208 (-10.9%) advances to 10.8% share, equalling its record also hit in June 2023 when it topped the charts. The VW Amarok (-26.8%) is the best-selling pickup truck in the country above its archenemy the Toyota Hilux (-28.5%) which was #1 in December. The Ford Ranger (-26.2%) makes it three pickups in the Top 5. The VW Taos (+16.8%) is the only Top 10 model to show a year-on-year gain, with the Chevrolet Tracker (-14.1%) and Jeep Renegade (-14.2%) keeping their losses below the market rate. In contrast the Renault Kangoo (-41.3%) and Toyota Yaris (-35.9%) implode.
