The Skoda Enyaq lodges its first Top 10 finish in Germany.

The German new car market disappoints in November, recording a -5.7% year-on-year loss at 245,701 units. The year-to-date tally is now up 11.4% to 2,602,726, still at historical low levels and 21.7% below the pre-pandemic result of 3,323,878 after 11 months in 2019. Volkswagen (+1%) goes agains the market with a small uptick to 19.2% share, one percentage point above its YTD level. Mercedes (-11.4%) suffers at #2 whereas BMW (+15.8%) is in great shape and passes Audi (-2%). Skoda (+41.1%) surges up at #5 as does Seat (+80%) at #9. Opel (-1.8%) manages to keep its fall below the market rate but it is not the case for Ford (-37.3%), Hyundai (-12.9%) and Kia (-10.9%). Citroen (+46%), Volvo (+22.2%), Mazda (+21%) stand out in the remainder of the Top 20. Notice also Tesla (-54.5%) and Cupra (-27%) both freefalling.

After last month’s major upset which saw the Fiat 500 lineup take control of the German models ranking, in November the charts is back to some kind of normalcy with three Volkswagens on top. Finally the VW Polo surges 124.2% year-on-year and five ranks on last month to #3. The Opel Corsa (+20.4%) is back to the 4th place it holds YTD, while the VW T-Roc (-12.7%) underperforms at #5 but keeps its #2 YTD ranking. The Mini lineup (+9.1%) and VW Passat (+5.9%) are solid but the performance of the month goes to the Skoda Enyaq (+220.1%), tripling its sales year-on-year to break into the German Top 10 for the first time at #8. Its previous best was #15 reached last August. The Enyaq is also the country’s best-selling EV, with the Tesla Model Y (-26.6%) at #22.
