Czech Republic August 2023: Skoda Octavia leads, VW Golf up to record 2nd place

The VW Golf is the 2nd best-selling vehicle in the Czech Republic in August.

New car sales in the Czech Republic climb 12.9% year-on-year in August to 18,718 units, leading to a year-to-date tally up 16.6% to 150,356. Local behemoth Skoda (+19.2%) beats its home market again but holds “just” 31.4% share vs. 35% year-to-date. Hyundai (+6.5%) is more shy at #2 while the next five brands all outpace the market: Toyota (+86.2%) is the most dynamic above Kia (+26.5%), Volkswagen (+20%), Mercedes (+16.2%) and BMW (+13.7%). At the opposite end of the stick Peugeot (-48.2%), Dacia (-41.6%) and Ford (-22.9%) are all in freefall. Below, MG soars 937.9% to #12, breaking its ranking and share (1.6%) records.

Over in the models aisle, the Skoda Octavia (+30.8%) flies off in the distance at 9% share, yet below the 10.2% it commands year-to-date. The VW Golf (+140.1%) has a particularly good month, leaping up to a record #2 and holding 4.5% of the market, way above the share it manages at home in Germany… The Skoda Scala (+63.4%) climbs three spots on July to end the month of the third step of the podium, distancing the Skoda Fabia (-28.6%) in difficulty and the Skoda Kamiq (+27.9%) very solid. The Skoda Kodiaq (+80.2%), Kia Ceed (+55.3%) and Skoda Karoq (+23.5%) also make themselves noticed in the remainder of the Top 10. The MG ZS is up 700% year-on-year and ranks #17.
