Austria August 2023: VW Golf teases Skoda Octavia for first place
The VW Golf just misses out on a win this month.
The Austrian new car market is up 5.5% year-on-year in August to 18,790 units, leading to a year-to-date tally up 14.4% to 163,046. Volkswagen (-8.8%) easily retains the brands top spot with 15.3% share and despite a year-on-year fall. In contrast Skoda (+33.2%) and BMW (+20.2%) both shine, with the latter accessing the third place year-to-date. Tesla (+183%) shoots up to #6 and 4.7% share vs. #10 and 3.8% so far this year. Seat (+28.5%) is also strong year-on-year but only manages 4.4% share vs. 5.5% year-to-date. Below, Cupra (+37.7%), Renault (+53.9%), Mazda (+40.5%) and Volvo (+80.5%) impress.
Model-wise, the Top 6 models all beat the market. Skoda Octavia (+30.2%) remains on top but is teased by the VW Golf (+37.8%) only 8 sales below. The Tesla Model Y (+64.7%) rallies back up five spots on July to end the month on the third step of the podium. The VW Tiguan (+17%) is more measured at #4 but climbs 14 ranks on last month to #4. The Tesla Model 3 (+18000%!) revives at #5 ahead of the BMW X1 (+4971.4%!). The Skoda Enyaq (+60.8%), Seat Ibiza (+93.5%) and Skoda Kamiq (+152.1%) stand out below.
