Spain July 2023: Dacia Sandero signs 7th win in past 10 months

The Dacia Sandero is the best-seller in Spain again.

The Spanish new car market continues to align strong results month after month this year, with July volumes up another 10.7% to 81,205 units. This brings the year-to-date tally up 21.9% to 586,626. Prive sales are up 12.1% to 35,111 for the month and up 14.7% year-to-date to 239,109, company sales up 13.2% to 35,132 in July and up 16.6% to 236,164 so far this year. Finally rental sales drop -0.5% to 10,962 but still surge 59% year-to-date to 111,353. Canarias (+24.2%), Ceuta y Melilla (+17.2%), Cantabria (+15.7%), Madrid (+13.7%) and Galicia (+13.6%) are the most dynamic regions in July.

Toyota (+13.8%) advances to 9% share and holds onto the brands top spot, distancing Kia (+14.1%). As a result Kia climbs two spots to #2 in the year-to-date charts. Volkswagen (+11.5%) is down one rank on June to #3 ahead of Seat rallying back up 32.6% to #4 and now also ranking #4 year-to-date vs. #6 over the Full Year 2022. Hyundai (-17.6%) is in a rut at #5 even if it’s a better ranking than YTD (#7). Renault (+25.6%) and Audi (+12.6%) also beat the market in the remainder of the Top 10 whereas Dacia (-12.3%) and Peugeot (-7.2%) skid. Below, MG (+465.4%) and Tesla (+1963.9%) continue to surge while Cupra (+114.1%) and Volvo (+73.1%) also impress.

Model-wise, the Dacia Sandero (-1.4%) manages a 7th win in the past 10 months and extends its year-to-date advantage over the #2, the Seat Arona, to just under 700 sales. The Kia Sportage (+62%) leaps up 10 spots on June to #2 overall with 2.3% share, followed closely by the Peugeot 2008 (-4.3%) and Toyota Corolla (+55.7%) itself up 7 ranks on last month to #4. The MG ZS (+327.6%) drops two spots on June but still snaps an incredible 6th place with 2% share. It now ranks #18 year-to-date vs. #50 over the Full Year 2022. The Renault Clio (+652.6%) compensates for a particularly bleak year-ago result to rank #10 overall, with the Toyota C-HR (+25.8%) also outstanding.
