Russia June/H1 2023: Market down 66.9% on two years ago, Chinese up 388.5%

The 52 years-old UAZ Hunter is inside the Russian Top 30 in June.

Russian new light vehicles sales gain 88.3% year-on-year in June to 52,279 units but are down -66.9% over two years ago. The year-to-date tally including all brands reporting quarterly stands at 358,921 units, down 3.1% over the same period a year ago. Homegrown behemoth Lada (+272%) holds 53.3% of the market for the month ahead of Haval (+406.1%), GAZ (+70.3%), Changan (+941.3%) and UAZ (+114.7%). Note Geely hasn’t reported sales for June. The H1 chart is very different notably because this time the Chery brands are included, as they only report quarterly. Lada (+92.2%) still leads the way at 40% share above Chery (+321.4%), Haval (+242%) and Geely (+227.2%). Exeed (+252.5%) ranks 6th while Omoda lands directly at #7. Russian brands are up 94.6% to 50.6% share and Chinese carmakers soar 388.5% to 45.2% of the market.

Model-wise, the Lada Granta (+407%) accounts for almost 1 in every 3 cars registered this month with the Lada Niva (+637.3%) and Haval Jolion (+426.8%) in tow. The event of the month is the return of the Lada Vesta (+141%) up 25 spots on May to #4 as production has now resumed. Below the GAZ Gazelle (+86.9%), the Haval F7 (+381.2%), Changan CS55 (+1081.3%) and Haval Dargo (+1205.6%) show insolent health. Note Geely models are not included. In the H1 2023 charts with all Chery Group models, the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro (+306.4%) ranks #3, the Omoda C5 #7, the Chery Tiggo 4 Pro #8, the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro (+203.7%) #9, the Exeed LX (+661.3%) #12 and the Exeed TXL (+159.7%) #16.
