Romania April 2023: Suzuki (+115.3%), BMW (+82.3%) stand out in market up 16.5%

Suzuki sales more than double year-on-year in Romania.

9,865 cars hit Romanian roads in April, a very robust 16.5% year-on-year lift. The year-to-date volume is up 25.1% to 46,831, a stellar performance considering the 2022 YTD volume at the same stage last year was already up 35.6% on the year prior. Local behemoth Dacia (+30.7%) outpaces its home market but sees its share (29.5%) stand way below its YTD level (35.2%). In fact the entire Top 5 beats the market this month with Skoda (+31.8%), Hyundai (+21%), Volkswagen (+41.2%) and Renault (+35%) in tow. Suzuki (+115.3%), BMW (+82.3%) and Mercedes (+42.6%) sport the largest gains in the Top 10. Great performances are rarer below, with Tesla (+140.7%), Cupra (+90.5%), Volvo (+60%), Seat (+58.3%) and Audi (+45.6%) standing out.

Over in the models lane, the Dacia Logan (+31.1%) confirms it remains Romania’s favourite with 10.4% share, albeit lower than the share it holds so far this year (11%). The Dacia Duster (+25.9%) climbs to #2 both in April and year-to-date with the Dacia Sandero (+196.6%) following behind with an outstanding year-on-year uptick. The Skoda Octavia (+285.2%) is equally impressive and manages to break Dacia’s monopoly of the Top 5 at #4. The Dacia Spring (-39.5%) is in bad shape above the Jogger (+86.5%) still gearing up. Note Dacia still holds the first 5 spots year-to-date. The Ford Kuga (+208.7%) is up five spots on March to #6 with the Renault Clio (+51.6%) also above the market growth rate at #9.
