Czech Republic April 2023: 7 Skodas in Top 7 for the 2nd time in history

The Skoda Kamiq is up to a record 2nd place in April.

18,429 new light vehicles hit Czech roads in April, a 25.2% year-on-year improvement. This leads to a year-to-date volume up 20.4% to 74,770. Skoda (+63.6%) once again vastly beats its home market to land a strong 37.5% share vs. 35.9% so far this year. Hyundai (-1.1%) is in difficulty year-on-year but still manages 8.9% share which is above its YTD level. Volkswagen (+39.2%) overtakes Toyota (+25.2%) both for the month and year-to-date, with Kia (+9.3%) shy at #5. Mercedes (+23.4%) almost matches the market growth at #6 ahead of Dacia (-0.6%). No other Top 10 member outraces the market, showing that the overall uptick has a lot to do with Skoda’s performance.

The Skoda Octavia (+222.8%) triples its year-ago volume to lead the charts with 11% share, distancing an equally dynamic Skoda Kamiq (+163.3%) lodging its best scores since September 2021. In fact, Skoda places 7 nameplates in the April Top 7, a record also reached in January 2022. In Skoda’s lineup, only the Enyaq (#38) isn’t at the top. The Kodiaq (+63.6%) performs best above the Karoq (+50.6%), Superb (+19.9%) and Scala (+17.3%) whereas the Fabia (-10.6%) struggles. The Hyundai Tucson (+28.2%) is the best of the rest at #8, followed by the VW Golf (+186.5%) and Hyundai i30 (-40.3%).
