Taiwan February 2023: Lexus breaks share record at 8.7%, market bouncing back up 35.2%

The Lexus NX is up to #2 in Taiwan in February.

New light vehicle sales in Taiwan soar 35.2% year-on-year in February to 32,819 units partly due to the fact Lunar New Year was in January this year vs. February in 2022. After a January down -14.4%, the year-to-date total is up 4.2% to 67,607 sales. Toyota (+0.3%) edges up on a particularly strong year-ago performance when it reached 32.9% share. It has to settle with 24.4% of the market this month. Lexus (+58.3%) is up to a fantastic 8.7% share, a new record for the carmaker passing its previous best of 7.9% established in February 2015. Honda (+34.4%), Mercedes (+38.7%) and Ford (+36.5%) roughly evolve like the market while Hyundai (+71.4%) shoots up to #6 overall. Further down, Volkswagen (+163.1%) and BMW (+108%) shine.

Model-wise, the Toyota Corolla Cross (+17.5%) remains by far the overall best-seller with 7.9% of the market and 8.6% year-to-date. The Lexus NX (+29.2%) is up 12 spots on January to land at a record 2nd place with 4.4% share. It distances the Honda CR-V (+67%) and Toyota Town Ace (+106.8%) both in excellent shape as is the Ford Focus (+91%) at #5. The Honda HR-V (+218%) is the only remaining Top 10 model to beat the market just as the Mitsubishi Delica (+29.9%) slightly trails the average growth. The MG HS repeats at an outstanding 11th place above the Toyota RAV4 (-65%) freefalling down 10 ranks on last month to #12.
