Chile November 2022: Suzuki Swift shoots up to #1, market endures heavy loss (-18.7%)

The Suzuki Swift is the best-selling vehicle in Chile in November.

It’s a third straight double-digit loss for the Chilean new light vehicle market in November at -18.7% to 31,708 units. However November 2021 was at a record level for the month and November 2022 is up 30.6% on November 2019. The year-to-date tally remains in positive at 392,845 (+14.9%) which is the highest ever volume at this stage of the year. Passenger cars are hit -34% to 7,105, SUVs are down -8.6% to 14,605, pickups are actually up 2.4% to 6,765 and vans sink -42.4% to 3,233.

In the brands ranking, Chevrolet (-10%) stays in the pole position it holds year-to-date but is slightly lower in terms of market share at 8% vs. 8.9% through November. Toyota (+16.3%) and Peugeot (+17.1%) defy the negative market with splendid year-on-year gains. It’s Peugeot’s second podium finish this year after last February (#3 also). Kia (-4%) is up one spot on October to #4 while Hyundai (-9.2%) is down two to #5. MG (+158.7%) and Mazda (+13%) are the only additional gainers in the Top 10. Below, Citroen (+58.4%), Mitsubishi (+32.6%), JMC (+22.2%), Subaru (+21.8%) and Opel (+20.5%) stand out. Chinese brands (-19%) account for 30.3% of the market.

Model-wise, the Suzuki Swift surges from #33 in October directly into first place with 2.7% share vs. 0.9% year-to-date. It topples the Maxus T60 (+18%), down to #2 as it is YTD. The Toyota Hilux (-15.8%) stays at #3 ahead of the YTD leader, the Mitsubishi L200 (+57.9%). The Chevrolet Groove aka Baojun 510 (-21.8%) rounds out the Top 5. The MG ZS (+3400%) recovers from a dismal year-ago score to return to the 6th place it holds YTD. The Toyota Corolla Cross is one again inside the Top 10 at #7, the Nissan Versa (-23.6%) is up 11 spots on last month to #8, the Toyota Raize up 18 to #9 and the Great Wall Poer (-1.9%) up three to #10.
