The Greek new car market surges 39.7% year-on-year in August to 8,658 registrations, meaning the year-to-date tally now edges down just -1.1% to 74,330. Toyota (+8.4%) trails the market by a large margin yet easily tops the brands ranking with 15.3% share. Peugeot (+104.3%) more than doubles its August 2021 volume to stay at #2 ahead of Volkswagen (+52.9%) and Opel (+224.2%) also beating the market. Renault (+510.2%), Ford (+127.6%) and Suzuki (+84.6%) also shine in the remainder of the Top 10 whereas Citroen (+9.2%), BMW (+10.3%) and Hyundai (+13.3%) are a lot shyer. Outside the Top 10, the performer of the month is DS up to a fantastic 13th place vs. #21 year-to-date.

Model-wise, the Toyota Yaris (+10.1%) keeps the lead with 6.3% share vs. 5.6% so far this year but can’t keep up with the market growth. In contrast, it is followed by four cars with surreal gains: the Peugeot 3008 (+290%) up 27 spots on July to #2, the Opel Corsa (+1070.6%), Renault Captur (+2880%) up 76 ranks to #4 and last month’s leader the Peugeot 208 (+409.3%). The VW Tiguan (+323.2%), Ford Puma (+165.7%) and VW T-Roc (+62.8%) also stand out in the Top 10. The Toyota Yaris Cross (#8) remains the best-seller recent launch (<12 months) above the Toyota Aygo X (#12), VW Taigo (#55), Alfa Romeo Tonale (#71) and Volvo C40 (#75).
