The Mitsubishi Xpander is the best-selling vehicle in Vietnam in July.
According to figures released by VAMA, the Vietnamese new vehicle market is up by a smashing 88% year-on-year in July to 30,254 units. This leads to a year-to-date tally up 39.4% to 232,094 sales. These figures climb to 38,183 (+60.1%) for the month and 291,115 (+29.8%) year-to-date when adding Hyundai and VinFast who report sales separately. Thaco-Kia (+62.1%) stays in the pole position of the manufacturers ranking, but its advance over #2 Hyundai (+43.7%) is just 9 units. Toyota (+53.9%) ranks third above Mitsubishi (+295.3%) up 4-fold year-on-year and VinFast (-43.5%) in a very bad posture. Mazda (+77.1%), Suzuki (+115.6%), Isuzu (+105.7%), Peugeot (+84.6%) and Lexus (+97.2%) stand out below.
Over in the models ranking, the Mitsubishi Xpander (+540%) is up a whopping 6-fold year-on-year and 13 spots on June to easily snap the top spot with 7.3% share. This is the nameplate’s first monthly win in Vietnam since January 2021. As a result it climbs to #4 year-to-date. In 2nd place we have the Toyota Avanza/Veloz up two spots on #2 and compared to zero sales in July 2021. The Hyundai Accent (+44.8%) is also up two ranks on June to #3 whereas the Ford Ranger (-0.3%) and Toyota Vios (-16.7%) struggle, the latter still #1 YTD. The VinFast Lux A2.0 (+39.5%) breaks its ranking record at #6, eclipsing the #8 it reached in May 2020. The Hyundai Santa Fe (+11.2%) rallies back up 18 spots on last month to #6 while the new Hyundai Creta is down one to #8. Notice also the Kia Carnival (+2241.7%), Honda City (+122.8%), Mitsubishi Triton (+289.7%), Mazda3 (+225.6%), Hyundai Tucson (+100.3%), Suzuki XL7 (+221%) and Toyota Fortuner (+127.2%) all hitting fantastic year-on-year lifts.
