    automakers could have selected kerosene as the standard fuel. US military uses JP-8 as the single fuel for their army, navy, air force transport.
    Oil companies can blend diff hydrocarbons from any type of oil (light, medium, heavy) to get single kerosene fuel. This way we dont need to have 2 different types of vehicles (petrol & diesel) and another fuel(s) for boats, planes …

    But thats too late now with electrification of transport in full swing.

  2. diesel has 15% > energy than petrol and diesel engine is 15% > efficient than petrol engine.
    however hybrid petrol engine is 30% > fuel efficient than standard petrol engine. so its much better to go with hybrid petrol engine than diesel engine since it uses petrol which has 15% = 6 wheels not with the 2,3,4 wheeled vehicles.
    of late the BEVs are gaining traction at expense of diesel.
