Canada November 2021: Hyundai (+2.1%) defies market down -13.9%

Hyundai sales are up 2.1% in a market down -13.9%.

According to estimates by local consultancy DesRosiers, the Canadian new light vehicle market recedes -13.9% year-on-year in November to 110,448 units, leading to a year-to-date tally up 6% to 1,535,479. Our 2021 Forecast remains unchanged at 1.63 million units (+4.5%). Group-wise, Honda Canada is the only major group still reporting sales monthly to keep its fall into the single-digits at -8.9% just as Hyundai-Kia is down -10.2% and Toyota Motor down -12.2%. Looking at the detail by brand, below Toyota (-12.3%), Hyundai (+2.1%) is the only mass market brand to record a year-on-year gain this month. Honda (-8.4%) limits its decline but Mazda (-46.6%), Subaru (-38.6%) ad Kia (-34.2%) are all hit very hard. Lexus (-11.7%) and Acura (-12.3%) resist somewhat while Genesis (+198.6%) continues to spectacularly gear up but still only accounts for 427 sales.
