Slovakia September 2021: Kia Ceed and Hyundai i30 tease Skoda Fabia for #1, sales off -8.7%

The Kia Ceed ends the month just two sales off a historic pole position.

The Slovak new car market drops -8.7% year-on-year in September to 5.797 registrations, leading to a year-to-date tally up 5.6% at 58.719 units. Market leader Skoda (-40.9%) freefalls to just 16.3% share vs. 21.3% so far this year, and is followed this month by Kia (+23%) up to a fantastic 12.1% share vs. 9.5% year-to-date. Hyundai (+22.3%) and Volkswagen (+61.5%) also post gravity-defying year-on-year upticks just below. Mercedes (+22.6%), Opel (+13.7%),  Toyota (+5.6%) and Citroen (+3.6%) also manage gains in the remainder of the Top 10. Further down, notice Lexus (+86.7%), Jeep (+85%), Ssangyong (+38.5%) and Audi (+31.5%) all in outstanding shape.

Model-wise, the Skoda Fabia retains the top spot by the skin of its teeth, selling just two units more than the Kia Ceed and six more than the Hyundai i30. In the process, the i30 overtakes the Skoda Octavia (down to a paltry #12 for the month) to take the 2nd spot overall year-to-date. The VW T-Cross is up four ranks on August to #4, distancing the Hyundai Tucson down one to #5 and the Skoda Scala up one to #6. The VW Golf is up six to #8 and the Toyota RAV4 up two to #10. Below, the Hyundai Kona is up 10 spots on last month to #15, the Kia Stonic up 13 to #16 and the Renault Captur up 24 to #19.
