United Arab Emirates January-July 2021: Toyota Land Cruiser outsells Nissan Patrol, sales up 23.6%

The Toyota Land Cruiser is the best-selling vehicle in the UAE so far in 2021.

The Emirati new light vehicle market gains 23.6% year-on-year to 107.280 units over the first 7 months of 2021. The two brand leaders grow slower than the market: Toyota (+15%) sees its share decline from 34.5% over the same period in 2020 to 32% now while Nissan (+9.6%) goes from 21.6% to 19.1%. Reversely Mitsubishi (+34.2%) is up to 11% and Kia (+45.9%) up to 4%. Suzuki (+217%) is by far the biggest gainer in the Top 10, up 8 spots on its FY20 ranking to #6. GMC (+73.3%) and Chevrolet (+51.4%) also beat the market in the remainder of the Top 10 whereas Hyundai (+6.7%), Lexus (+13.6%) and Ford (+17.8%) under perform. Beyond the Top 10, Changan (+1578.1%), Fiat (+360.9%), Volvo (+168.9%), Peugeot (+115.4%) and Jeep (+61.2%) are among the most impressive performers.

Over in the models ranking, the Toyota Land Cruiser (+7.2%) significantly trails the market to 7.9% share, but that’s enough to overtake a declining Nissan Patrol (-15.1%) for the overall lead. The Toyota Hilux (+36.3%) and Nissan Sunny (+51.3%) post very solid scores below, with the Mitsubishi Pajero (-16.5%) rounding out the Top 5 but in difficulty. The Mitsubishi Attrage (+169.2%) and Toyota Hiace (+59.3%) outpace the market further down but all additional Top 10ers are in frank negative, with the Toyota Prado (-30.4%) faring the worst. The Suzuki Swift Dzire (+2957.1%) propels itself up 59 spots to miss out on a Top 10 ranking for just 27 sales. The Mitsubishi Montero Sport (+658.8%) and Chevrolet Captiva (+198.1%) also impress further down. The Nissan Xterra (#23) is the best-selling recent launch above the Mitsubishi Xpander (#74).
