China imports July 2021: Mini (+71.5%), BMW (+35.6%), Audi (+33.6%) impress in market up 2.8%

Mini sales are up 71.5% year-on-year in China in July.

Sales of imported cars in China edge up 2.8% year-on-year in July to 87.567, leading to a year-to-date tally up 11.8% to 580.295. Lexus (+3.4%) remains by far the most popular importer in the country with over 22.700 sales. It distances Mercedes (+10.4%) also advancing to the year-to-date 2nd spot this month. BMW (+35.6%) posts a stellar gain at #3 above Audi (+33.6%) also in excellent shape. Porsche (+11.1%) drops one spot on June to #5, ahead of Land Rover (+32.4%) and Mini (+71.5%) both very dynamic. Toyota (-58.9%) freefalls at #8 as does Subaru (-18.2%) at #10 while Volvo (+15.4%) progresses. Further down, notice Bentley (+117.9%), Aston Martin (+73.8%), Rolls Royce (+70.8%), Lamborghini (+63.4%), Maserati (+29.9%) and Jeep (+16.4%) among the biggest gainers.

Model-wise, the Lexus ES (+0.7%) easily tops the charts, selling more than twice the volume of any other imported nameplate. The Lexus RX (+4.2%) makes it a Lexus 1-2 as it is also the case year-to-date. The BMW X5 is up two spots on last month to #3 while the Lexus NX (+38.9%) remains at #4 and now also holds this spot year-to-date above the Mercedes GLE (+1.8%). The Toyota Alphard (+5.2%) is up three ranks on June to #6, with the Audi A5 (+60.1%) and BMW 7 Series (+19.7%) also impressive in the remainder of the Top 10. The Audi Q7 (+96.5%), BMW 3 Series GT (+90.3%), Mini (+55.1%), Mercedes E-Class (+54.7%), Porsche Panamera (+41.2%) and Lexus UX (+25.6%) also shine below. The Land Rover Defender (#35) and Porsche Taycan (#36) top recent launches.
