Colombia June 2021: Toyota Corolla Cross up to #3 in market surging 70.7%
The Toyota Corolla Cross is an instant blockbuster in Colombia.
New vehicle sales in Colombia surge 70.7% year-on-year in June to 20.449 units, leading to a year-to-date tally up 53.6% to 111.169. Despite trailing the market, Renault (+54.2%) easily tops the brands ranking with 19.9% share vs. 20.6% so far this year, distancing Chevrolet (+24.4%) impacted by the microchip shortage at 14.3% share vs. 17.2% YTD. Below, Toyota (+113.9%), Nissan (+143.8%), Volkswagen (+186.6%) and Suzuki (+211.2%) all post fantastic gains as does Hyundai (+253.9%) further down. Mazda (+9.8%) is also heavily impacted by the semiconductor crisis and drops to just 5.1% share at #8 vs. 9.9% and #3 year-to-date. DFSK (+287.5%), Seat (+266.7%), Jeep (+264.5%), Audi (+246.7%) and Volvo (+209.1%) also impress in the remainder of the Top 30.
Over in the models ranking, we have a photo finish this month with the three best-sellers fitting within 16 sales. The Renault Kwid (+88.4%) takes the lead above two recent launches: the Chevrolet Joy (previous generation Onix) and the Toyota Corolla Cross landing directly at #3 for its first full month of sales in Colombia. Note the Corolla Cross sells 802 hybrids, the highest hybrid figure ever in Colombia. The Renault Duster (+54.1%) and Kia Picanto (+62.8%) complete the Top 5. Notice also the Nissan Frontier NP300 (+207.2%) hitting its highest ranking since March 2019 at #8 and the year-to-date leader, the Mazda CX-30 (+42.3%) down to a paltry 10th place. The Renault Duster Oroch (+352.2%), Nissan Kicks (+198.2%), Suzuki Vitara (+169.9%) and Nissan March (+125.2%) also shine further down.
