The Swiss new car market drops -24% year-on-year in 2020 to 236.828 registrations. Volkswagen (-23.3%) roughly follows the market evolution to remain the favourite carmaker in the country, but it was challenged by two premium Germans this year. Mercedes (-14.6%) improves one percentage point of share from 8.6% to 9.6% and was the #1 brand in the country in May, August and September. BMW (-14%) is also up one percentage point to 9% share and ranked first in April. Volvo (-4.8%) and Renault (-5.5%) sign the best holds in the Top 10 with Audi (-20.5%) and Toyota (-20.6%) also outpacing the market. Below, Mini (-0.2%), Tesla (-0.3%) and Porsche (-1.3%) are stable while among smaller brands, Ferrari (+27.2%) impresses.

Over in the models ranking, the Skoda Octavia (-36.5%) posts a 4th consecutive annual win despite a ghastly fall. It keeps the Tesla Model 3 (+0.5%) at bay, the latter up two spots on 2019 to #2 and ranking #1 in Switzerland in March, August, September and December. The VW Tiguan (-29.3%) and Golf (-36.6%) both lose share and are bumped down one spot each to #3 and #4 respectively. Outstanding performance of the Audi Q3 (+38.4%) up 18 spots on last year to land in 5th place and ranking #1 in October and November. This vastly improved score is helped by the arrival of the Q3 Sportback. The Skoda Karoq (-15.7%) lifts up two spots to #6, the Mini Hatch (+2.2%) is up 9 to #9 and the Volvo XC40 (+25.1%) up 20 to #10. The Ford Puma (#40) is the most popular 2020 launch above the Mercedes GLB (#64) and the VW ID.3 (#78).
