Argentina February 2021: Toyota cements newfound leadership in market up 10.8%

Toyota is the best-selling carmaker in Argentina so far in 2020.

Compared with a particularly low year-ago level (the weakest February in 16 years), the Argentinean new vehicle market gains 10.8% year-on-year in February to 30.141 units. This leads to a year-to-date tally up 10.6% to 79.579. Toyota (+76%) surges ahead and cements its newfound market lead with 18.9% share. This is the 8th time Toyota leads the monthly charts in Argentina after October 2018, May to August 2019, March 2020 and January 2021. If maintained until the end of the year it would end 17 years of reign by Volkswagen (+43%) also in excellent shape this month but ranking at #2. Fiat (+52.4%) completes a winning podium in third place whereas Chevrolet (-16%) and Renault (-23.5%) struggle just below. Peugeot (+35.6%), Nissan (+20.1%), Mercedes (+13.7%) and Jeep (+11%) also stand out in the Top 10.

Over in the models ranking, the Fiat Cronos (+340.9%) continues to dominate, it has now been the best-selling vehicle in Argentina since last August without interruption. The Toyota Hilux (+51%) remains in 2nd place while the VW Gol (+61.1%) is up 8 spots on January to #3. In fact, all Top 9 models advance faster than the market, with the Toyota Corolla (+291.7%), VW Amarok (+181.3%), Peugeot 208 (+121.4%) and Ford Ranger (+100.3%) all spectacularly more than doubling their sales year-on-year and the Toyota Yaris (+53.5%) and Etios (+42.9%) also vigorous. The VW Nivus (#15) is the best-selling recent launch in the country above the Renault Alaskan (#33) and Ford Territory (#37).
