The Finnish new car market is down -13.3% year-on-year in January to 9.253 units. Toyota (-9.6%) is back in the brands pole position with a superior share at 16.4% vs. 14% over the Full Year 2020. Skoda (-15.5%) lifts to 2nd place above Volvo (-12.5%) and Volkswagen (-29%), the latter paying the price for sales brought forward to December. Audi (+28.45) and Mercedes (+23.2%) post the largest and only gains in the Top 10, whereas Opel (-40%), BMW (-28.5%) and Kia (-28.1%) suffer. Further down, Dacia (+419.4%), Renault (+114.3%), Seat (+42.9%), Peugeot (+19.9%), Mazda (+9%) and Suzuki (+6%) impress while Cupra lands at #24 with 0.3% share.

Four of the Top five models post fantastic gains in defiance of the market conditions this month. The Skoda Octavia (+11.1%) repeats at #1 with a commanding 6.1% share, two percentage points above its FY2020 level. The Toyota Yaris (+22.7%) feels the effect of the new generation and advances to #2, while last year’s leader, the Toyota Corolla (-32.6%) is in difficulty. The Toyota RAV4 (+47.2%) and Volvo XC40 (+173.1%) close the Top 5 in surreal manner, both helped by new green variants. Only the VW Golf (+29.9%) also progresses year-on-year in the remainder of the Top 10 but it ranks at a lowly #10 vs. #5 last month. Below, the Renault Captur (+954.5%), Dacia Duster (+923.5%), Mercedes GLE (+390%), VW Tiguan (+183%), Seat Leon (+160.7%), Mercedes GLC (+62.9%) and E-Class (+53.6%) all score extravagant year-on-year gains.
