Denmark September 2020: Tesla Model 3 scores third win, VW ID.3 lands at #5 in market back up (+7.6%)

The VW ID.3 lands directly in 5th place in Denmark.

New car sales in Denmark are back in positive for the second time in the past three months in September at +7.6% year-on-year to 17.197 units, leading to a year-to-date tally off -18.1% to 142.163. Brand leader Volkswagen (-9.5%) bucks the positive trend to endure the only year-on-year drop in the Top 5 but still manages to reclaim the top spot it holds YTD at 11.3% share. Peugeot (+10.5%) and Toyota (+23.7%) follow while Ford (+18.3%) and Hyundai (+38.6%) round out the Top 5 in spectacular fashion. Tesla (+87.8%) and Opel (+62.2%) score the largest gains in the Top 10, Skoda (+8.9%) also outpaces the market but Citroen (-31.8%) and Mercedes (-4.2%) fall. Mini (+127.1%), Nissan (+68.5%), Fiat (+44%), Kia (+24.2%), Mitsubishi (+18.3%), BMW (+15.7%) and Renault (+12.8%) shine further down.

Model-wise, a new shipment of Tesla Model 3 (+82.6%) conveniently coinciding with the end of Q3 allows the nameplate its third Danish monthly win after December 2019 and last March, however the Model 3 can’t crack the YTD Top 10 just yet (#13). The Peugeot 208 (+4.6%) slightly trails the market but edges up on spot on August to #2, distancing the Nissan Qashqai (+53.7%) and Opel Corsa (+192.6%) both sporting spectacular lifts. Echoing the instant blockbuster status it already achieved in Norway (#1), Ireland (#1), Iceland (#3), Finland (#6), the Netherlands (#11) and Sweden (#15), the VW ID.3 lands directly at #5 in Denmark with 3.1% share, also instantly becoming the brand’s best-seller well above the Polo (#11) and most significantly the Golf (-55.4%) completely imploding this month to #32 vs. #10 YTD. The Hyundai i10 (+127.9%), Kona (+107.4%) and Ford Fiesta (+15.3%) also impress in the remainder of the Top 10.
