Estonia August 2020: Citroen (+88.2%) swims upstream in worsening market (-42.3%)
Citroen C3 Aircross sales shoot up 255.6% year-on-year in August.
New car sales in Estonia endure a 6th double-digit year-on-year drop in August at a dreadful -42.3% to just 1.516 units. This is the second largest fall in all of Europe so far below just Romania (-51.9%) and leads to a year-to-date tally off -34.4% to 12.961. Brand leader Toyota (-17.4%) manages to fall much slower tham the market, vastly extending its margin over 2nd-placed Skoda (-56.9%) to almost double at 19.7% share vs. 10.2% for the Czech manufacturer. The hero of the month is Citroen (+88.2%) completely ignoring the depressed context to almost double its volumes year-on-year and climb to third place overall with 9.4% share vs. 5.6% so far in 2020. Only Peugeot (-27.7%), Kia (-28.5%) and Renault (-31.3%) also manage to outpace the market in the remainder of the Top 10, all ranking within the 6 best-sellers, just as Volkswagen (-71.3%), Dacia (-68.6%), Honda (-57.2%) and Hyundai (-53.3%) all properly implode. Bentley (+100%), Land Rover (+50%), Lexus (+30%) and Jaguar (+11.1%) post the only other gains further down.
Model-wise, the Toyota RAV4 (-26.8%) reclaims the top spot it holds YTD off the Toyota Corolla (-14.7%) with the Skoda Octavia (-54%) rounding out the podium. The Citroen Berlingo surges 35% year-on-year to remain at #4 above the Toyota C-HR (+23.1%) up 9 spots on July to #5, but its the Renault Captur (+540%) at #9, the Peugeot 2008 (+311.1%) at #6 and the Citroen C3 Aircross (+255.6%) at #10 which score the most spectacular gains in the Top 10, just as the Peugeot 3008 (+20.7%) also impresses at #7. The Skoda Kamiq and Kia Xceed both top recent launches, each with 13 sales.
