The country was under a strict COVID-19 lockdown for the entire month and as a result new car sales collapse -88.7% year-on-year to just 2.562 units, pulling the year-to-date tally down -23.6% to 87.730. Only 3 carmakers manage to sell over 200 units this month: Toyota (-83%) holds a 25.4% market share vs. 12.8% so far in 2020, Kia (-85.7%) is up to 18.3% share vs. 12.2% and Skoda (-87.5%) at 8.6% like YTD. Renault (-79.7%) resists best in the Top 10 and leaps up 6 spots on March to #4, with Volkswagen (-82.3%) and Citroen (-83.4%) also outpacing the market in the remainder of the Top 10 but Hyundai (-96.6%) Nissan (-92.1%) and Peugeot (-90%) hit particularly hard. Further down, Chrysler (+25%), Jaguar (-33.3%), Cadillac (-42.1%), Bentley (-50%), Land Rover (-71.1%), Ford (-72.3%) and MG (-77.1%) resist best while newcomer GAC is up 8 spots on last month to #28.
