Israel March 2020: Seat (+49.9%) powers ahead in market halted by COVID-19 (-36.2%)

The Seat Arona is up to #14 in Israel in Q1.

Thanks to our partnership with cartube.co.il, we can share with you today complete Israeli data including models data for each month of 2020 so far. In response to the spread of the coronavirus, widespread non-essential business closures were initiated in Israel from March 15 onwards and a national state of emergency and strict lockdown from March 19. As a result new car sales in the country crater at -36.2% year-on-year in March to 18.595 registrations, tilting the year-to-date tally into negative at -7.5% to 85.168.

Hyundai (-38.9%) retains the brands pole position but sees its share thaw to 13.9% vs. 15.5% so far in 2020. Kia (-26.1%) leaps up one spot on February to #2 with 13.3%, discarding Toyota (-49.2%) in great difficulty. Seat (+49.9%) ignores the surrounding gloom with a very impressive uptick at #6 while Skoda (-14.9%), Renault (-26.4%) and Mitsubishi (-33.9%) also outpace the market in the remainder of the Top 10. Suzuki (-43%), Nissan (-41.7%) and Mazda (-39.7%) are hit harder. Further down, Porsche (+566.7%), Jaguar (+169.2%), Land Rover (+106.9%), Cadillac (+65.2%) and Opel (+1.7%) are up.

In the models ranking, the Hyundai Ioniq (+18.6%) reclaims the top spot off the Toyota Corolla (+127.7%), leader over the FY2019. The Kia Picanto (-6.6%) and Niro (-8.2%) follow while the Mitsubishi Outlander (+9.6%) rounds out the Top 5. The Chevrolet Spark (+82.5%) and Hyundai i20 (+10.6%) are also in outstanding shape in the remainder of the Top 10, as are the Seat Ibiza (+191.5%), Arona (+64.7%), Renault Megane (+50.6%) and Skoda Kodiaq (+37.8%) further down. The Mazda CX-30 (#35) is the best-selling recent launch above the Skoda Scala (#45), MG ZS (#48) and Citroen C5 Aircross (#51).
