Hong Kong (China) January 2020: Market down -33.2% on initial coronavirus impact
New light vehicle sales in Hong Kong drop -33.2% year-on-year in January to 2.323 registrations on both the Lunar New Year Holiday pulled forward vs. last year and the start of the coronavirus lockdown impact. Toyota (-37.1%) falls even faster than the market but comfortably remains atop the brands charts with 29.1% share, distancing Mercedes (-27%), BMW (-18%) and Honda (-35.8%) all above 10% share. The Top 4 indeed accounts for a mammoth 70.7% of Hong Kong sales in January. Audi (+2.9%) is the only carmaker in positive in the entire market this month, with Tesla down 3 spots on December to #5 with just under 2% of the market.
