Samoa Full Year 2019: Toyota remains #1 brand with 41.5% share

Samoa corresponds to the western part of the Samoan Islands, the Eastern part being American Samoa. It is home to 195.843 inhabitants, with the two main islands being Upolu – hosting the capital city Apia and the Faleolo International Airport – and Savai’i, one of the biggest islands in Polynesia.

The Samoan new car market is down -4.3% year-on-year in 2019 to 424 units, Toyota (-3.8%) improves its share slightly to 41.5%, as does Ford (-3.1%) to 29% but Hyundai (-8.1%) drops over one percentage point to 26.7%. The Hiace (-32.4%) remains Toyota’s best-selling model despite a steep fall, just two sales above the Hilux (-15.8%) also sinking. In fact the Toyota Land Cruiser 70 (+44%), Coaster (+200%) and RAV4 (+33.3%) are the best performers for the brand this year. The Hiace and Hilux’s poor performances make it difficult to predict the overall best-seller in Samoa in 2019, it could also be the Ford Ranger.
