3/02 update: Now with Top 10 models.

The Luxembourg new car market gains 4.2% year-on-year in 2019 to 55.008 registrations, a new all-time record. Volkswagen (+3.9%) remains the most popular carmaker in the country and the only one above 10% share at 12.3%. Mercedes (+11.1%) advances to #2, overtaking BMW (-1.5%) while Audi (+12.9%) bypasses Renault (+2.3%) to land at #4. If Volkswagen led the way for most of the year, Mercedes was #1 in September and October and BMW ranks 1st in December. Volvo (+13.5%) is the best performer in the Top 10 with Citroen (+10.4%) and Skoda (+10.3%) also managing double-digit gains. Further down, Tesla (+430.2%), Alpine (+312.5%), DS (+77%), Lamborghini (+40.5%), Seat (+33.7%), Smart (+18.5%) and Kia (+10.7%) impress. Launched last year, now Chinese-owned Borgward can only manage 19 sales, while compatriots Maxus (12), MG (11) and Changan (1) aren’t any more successful.

In the models ranking, the VW Golf clocks in a 9th consecutive year on top, resisting a strong assault by the Mercedes A-Class (+50.3%). If the Golf topped the monthly charts all the way to July, it hasn’t done so since, with the A-Class ranking #1 in September and October. The VW Tiguan (-0.1%) edges up one spot to climb onto the podium ahead of the Renault Clio (+8.5%) up two ranks to #4 and #1 in November. Like in 2018, the VW Polo (-3%) rounds out the Top 5 but 4 of the 5 following nameplates are new entries into the annual Luxembourg Top 10. The VW T-Roc (+50.8%) is up to #6, the Volvo XC40 (+125.6%) more than doubles its sales year-on-year and lurches to 7th place overall, even topping the December charts, the Audi Q3 (+210.4%) enjoys the benefits of a new generation at #9 and the Renault Captur (+29.8%) lands at #10, ranking #1 in August,.
