Finland October 2019: Kia (+62.5%), BMW (+44.5%) help lift market up 18.1%

The Kia Rio breaks into the Finnish Top 10 in October.

In October, new car sales in Finland soar 18.1% on weak year-ago post-WLTP figures to 9.249 units, leading to a year-to-date volume down -8.2% to 95.684. Even though it trails the market growth, Toyota (+11.7%) easily remains the most popular brand in the country with 13.4% share vs. 10.2% for Volkswagen (+36.4%) which has reclaimed the YTD #2 spot off sister brand Skoda (+2.3%). 5 of the following 7 brands outpace the market: Kia (+62.5%), BMW (+44.9%), Ford (+34.4%), Renault (+28.3%) and Nissan (+20.1%). Outside the Top 10, Porsche (+410%), Lexus (+164.3%), Citroen (+105.9%), Dacia (+104.6%), Suzuki (+66.7%), Mitsubishi (+61.3%) and Mazda (+60%) make themselves noticed. In contrast, Tesla is down -95.5% on September, going from 156 to just 7 sales…

The Toyota Corolla (+2594.7%) is the best-selling vehicle in Finland for the 4th consecutive month, but this is still not enough to topple the Skoda Octavia (+52.7%) from its YTD pedestal, the latter leading by 480 sales which seems like an unsurmountable gap. The Toyota Yaris (+16.5%) and Ford Focus (+11.9%) both lose share up gain two spots on September while the VW Golf (+53.3%) rounds up the Top 5. The rest of the Top 10 entirely outrace the market, led by the Kia Rio (+295.6%) and Ford Fiesta (+191.9%) with gigantic gains alongside the Volvo XC60 (+45.2%), V60 (+36.9%) and Nissan Qashqai (+28.2%). Below, the VW T-Roc (+264.4%), Kia Niro (+111.1%), Opel Astra (+75.3%), Hyundai i30 (+74.5%) and Toyota RAV4 (+57%) also impress.
